The Project

THE RED BOX

A performance on the visibility of prostitutes through History.

1 performance...

4 showcases of the Red Light District...

4 prostitutes...

4 characters that emerge from History to empower themselves in the present, achieving a common connection, showing 4 sides of prostitution, different realities and wielding a true claim for space and rights.

THE RED BOX began as a theater monologue, with the idea of reflecting the empowerment of women who practice prostitution, beyond the stigma or exclusion of a world society that continues, through the centuries, considering it inferior, repulsive and without wondering who they really are.

In Amsterdam, in the midst of the debate about whether prostitution showcases should remain a tourist attraction as part of the Red Light District landscape, or if they should be moved to another place and under other conditions, sex workers defend their right to remain in what they consider their space, like any other worker.
